How do HOA / Condo board members get elected?

Board members are typically elected by a vote of the homeowners within the association.

The specific process for electing board members can vary depending on the bylaws of the association, but it usually involves a nomination process followed by a vote at the Association’s annual meeting.

During the development and sale period, or while the building is happening, the developer usually appoints the Board of Directors. These are typically members of the development staff, but at a point as determined by the governing documents or state law, the Board of Directors will be elected by the membership.

If you are interested in volunteering for a role with your community, you should attend the annual meeting or ask your community manager what seats will be open at the next annual meeting and how you can get nominated.
